Corcoran Gallery of Art & Renwick Gallery

My favorite part about both of these galleries is that they display the European paintings in the same style of the 19th century Salon in Paris. It’s not hung side by side but rather one on top of another, spaced carefully. It gives me the feeling that I’m in that time period. One of the rooms even had a grand piano—oh, how I would have loved to play it.

Renwick Gallery is part of the Smithsonian so it’s free and features mostly American craftwork and art. The Corcoran Gallery of Art (free admission on Saturdays during the summer!) is the first and largest non-federal institution and displays European and modern/contemporary American art as well. Both are worth checking out.  

Two museums down, many more to go. =) My mission is to visit all the major museums in the DC area before I graduate.
